Walk Down Memory Lane at South Brookley Elementary School’s Final Walkthrough

Please share – Judy Fell Burnham, Board Member, RevitalizeDIP

August 21 2025 Update: At the South Brookley Elementary memory walk-through on Monday, 8/25, come to the cafeteria at 4pm for opening remarks and recognition of any teachers present. Individuals will be given post-it notes and we encourage you to write a memory about a classroom on the post-it note and leave outside the classroom door. And please pass the word about the walk-through to alumni that are not on Facebook. – Judy Fell Burnham, Board Member, RevitalizeDIP

RevitalizeDIP is looking forward to our south Mobile peninsula community getting a makeover soon.

The old South Brookley school will be torn down in the fall to make way for the new Parkway Community Center.

Before that happens, you will get the chance to walk through the school, as well as see some of your former teachers and fellow classmates again.

District 3 Councilman, C. J. Small and the Riverside/DIP Community Action Group are hosting South Brookley Elementary School‘s Walk Down Memory Lane on Monday, August 25 from 4:00 pm through 6:00 pm.

This is what the Mobile City Council posted on 8/19/2025:

Join Councilman CJ Small and the Riverside/DIP Community Action Group as we walk down memory lane at the South Brookley Elementary School Final Walkthrough before demolition begins.

This beloved building has been a cornerstone of our community, holding countless memories for students, teachers, and families. On Monday, August 25, from 4–6 PM at 1600 Boykin Blvd., we’ll come together to honor its legacy, recognize former teachers, and look ahead to the new opportunities its transition will bring.

Remarks from Councilman Small and a special recognition of former teachers will begin promptly at 4 PM in the cafeteria.

We hope you’ll join us for this special moment of reflection and community.
