A message from Yvette Young:
I was asked by a resident to share a post clarifying what does “Do Not Litter” mean. To many of us, it means do not litter anywhere, anytime, ever. With the Do Not Litter signs posted in several places in the community, perhaps some residents think it means do not litter where the sign is posted, and that it’s okay to litter somewhere else.
Do Not Litter means, do not litter anywhere, on our public streets, neighborhoods, parks, waterways etc. It’s very simple, keep a grocery bag or garbage bag in your car to dispose of your litter. If you are a pedestrian and need to dispose of litter, place it in a garbage receptacle. But please do no discard your litter out of the window, or on the ground. Take your litter with you and please share the importance of not littering, with family, friends, neighbors, but more importantly to your children and other youth in the community.
Many people do not understand the damage litter does to the community and environment. So please take advantage of every opportunity to share the importance of placing litter in a trash receptacle. A clean community is a safer community.
