Mayoral Runoff – Voters have Four Weeks to Decide
And the campaign continues. Who will be the best mayor to RevitalizeDIP? – Yvette Young, President, RevitalizeDIP
WKRG News 10 reported the Mayoral Election results on 8/27/2025. Here is an excerpt of their report:
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — After months of campaigning, debates, and forums, the numbers are in, and Mobile does not have a clear winner for mayor — yet.
Barbara Drummond will face Spiro Cheriogotis in a runoff on Sept. 23. Drummond received 13,897 votes, and Cheriogotis earned 11,389 votes. The two took a clear lead over Paul Prine, who got 8,186 votes, and Connie Hudson, who got 7,722 votes.
Drummond has served in the Alabama House of Representatives for the last decade. Prior to that, she served in Mobile Mayor Sam Jones’ administration and was a reporter for the Mobile Press-Register.
Shortly after the runoff was called, Drummond issued a formal response that read, in part, “despite being outspent by hundreds of thousands of dollars and facing opponents backed by long-standing political and corporate interests, Drummond’s people-powered campaign continues to defy the odds.”
“I’m so grateful to our supporters, volunteers, and every Mobilian who cast their vote for a more unified city,” Drummond said. “This isn’t my victory; it’s a victory for everyone who believes we can tackle our challenges by bringing people together. The powerful coalition we’ve built proves that Mobile is ready for leadership that listens and unites.”
Cheriogotis said his “campaign was just really hitting its stride,” and his “team was engaged and ready to go” for the next leg of his campaign.
Cheriogotis is a former district court judge, having given up his seat on the bench to run for mayor. He was endorsed by current mayor Sandy Stimpson and had by far raised the most money out of the four mayoral candidates.
He said his “wide array of experience” is what he thinks will earn him the win.
“I’m a family man, I’m raising four kids on top of everything else we’re doing; I’m running two businesses at the same time. I have that judicial and legal experience,” he said. “And the mayor is not just one job, it’s many jobs … so I hope that my wide array of experience will show people that I’m ready for this job.”
Voters have four weeks to decide between the two candidates.
